Inventory of homes for sale in January, 2012 was 7.0 months.  This is down from a peak of 19.2 months in January, 2009.  Inventory has consistently been 7.2 months or below for the last 11 months in a row.  Historically, January is typically the month with the highest inventory for the year.

The average sale price for a home in the Portland Metro area is basically the same as it was a year ago.  (January, 2011 – $248,900.  January, 2012 – $249,100)
